With the three big holidays behind us, we now look to begin a new for the upcoming year. 2018 is sure to be an exciting and memorable year for St. Mel’s Catholic Academy. We have so much to look forward to, that will bring joy and excitement to our school and parish.
In December, the school quickly took on the Christmas spirit with decorations and events for Advent as we prepared for the birth of Christ. The hallways were filled with calendars, Advent wreaths, Christmas projects, and other beautiful activities that brought the true meaning of Christmas into our school. The entire school community was brought into the Christmas spirit with the annual tree lighting followed by the Christmas Spectacular party organized by the Parent Academy Association. Everyone had a wonderful time and Father O’Malley Hall was transformed into a winter wonderland. Santa even had hot cocoa cafe! Students in nursery through fourth put on a Christmas concert for the school and the parents. Their voices brought joy and filled the air with the sounds of the season. The entire school participated in the Advent prayer service where students’ read scripture and sang hymns in preparation of Jesus’ birth. The season of Advent and the Christmas spirit was alive and present at St. Mel’s Catholic Academy.
We will start 2018 with the very important Catholic Schools Week. As always Catholic School Week begins with our open house on January 28th. This year we will be showcasing all the beautiful art work and learning that has been taking place in the art studio and classrooms. We would like to have a very successful open house and fill the school with new and interested families. If you know of someone who Catholic education would be a good fit, please let them know about our open house. We would love to show them all the wonderful things happening at St. Mel’s. All are welcome!
On behalf of the entire school, I wish you and your family a very blessed and happy New Year. May you continue to receive God’s blessings throughout the new year, and I thank you for your continued dedication to St. Mel’s Catholic Academy.
Mr. Christopher Stein
