The fifth grade at St. Mel’s Catholic Academy has had a great school year. Recently fifth grade has gotten to once again return to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island to bake delicious desserts for the residents, they received a Certificate of Love for their generosity. Besides traveling to the Ronald McDonald House fifth grade was able to walk to Memorial Field for Sport’s Day where the 70s and 80s went head to head a three different 5th grade relay races. In the classroom fifth grade has been learning about government in social studies and is working on a special religion project to honor St. Mel’s Parish’s 75th anniversary.
Looking ahead fifth grade is excited to bring what the next month will bring. The students are most excited for their STEM fieldtrip to United Skates where they will get to enhance their STEM knowledge while also being able to roller skate. With a month left of school fifth grade still has many exciting adventures to come both in and out of the classroom.
The fifth graders at St. Mel’s Catholic Academy are continuing to have a great year! This week the fifth grade revisited the Long Island Ronald McDonald House. While at the Ronald McDonald house students got to give back to the community by baking desserts for the families staying at the house. They made all sorts of goodies such as cookie bites, brownies, cupcakes and cookie trains. Students had a great time baking and helping others.
Last week, the fifth graders were able to take part in Catholic Schools’ Week. As a part of Catholic Schools’ Week the students got to attend an exciting assembly, a pancake breakfast and buddy up with the first grade for a wonderful Dr. Seuss activity. In the classroom fifth grade has been hard at work learning about the fifty states and their capitals. The fifth graders have become cartographers creating maps of the United States using their Google Chromebooks. The fifth graders have also been able to contribute to the class “fact wall” with all their new knowledge about the fifty states. This fifth grade cannot wait to see what else this school year has in store for them!
The fifth graders at St. Mel’s catholic Academy are having a wonderful start to the 2015-2016 school year! The fifth graders have been fortunate to engage in school wide activities such as the annual pep rally and unique learning experiences just for fifth grade. Currently the fifth graders have been getting used to their Google Chromebooks and Google classroom where they are able to keep up with all their classroom assignments as well as complete activities. Fifth grade has most recently used their Google Chromebooks to create slideshows about the Aztec Civilization in social studies. Students have also gotten creative writing poems about the wonder of the Holy Trinity in religion. Besides studying the ancient civilizations in the Americas in social studies and the significance of the Holy Trinity in religion, the fifth graders have been working hard in English Language Arts, science, math, Spanish, computer, and gym.
After a successful start, the fifth grade at St. Mel’s is looking forward to exciting things to come this year!
